Miniature donkeys originate from the Mediterranean islands of Sardinia and Sicily. They are social, affectionate animals well-suited for families, beginners and small-scale farms.

Height: Average around 28 to 36 inches at the shoulder
Colors + Markings: Grey, black, white or spotted coat with a distinctive dorsal stripe along the back
Lifespan: Around 25 to 30 years with proper care

Diet + Nutrition: Miniature donkeys eat significantly less than full-sized equines. Feed with quality grass hay, pasture grazing and limited grain. Avoid overfeeding as obesity is a common concern. Fresh water should always be available.
Hoof Care + Grooming: Regular hoof trimming every six to eight weeks. Brush coat periodically. Check hooves for cracks or infections.
Shelter: They require less space than standard equines and adapt well to varied climates. A simple three-sided shelter with shade and clean water access is sufficient. Secure fencing is important as they are naturally curious.
Health: Generally hardy and low-maintenance animals. Routine vet care includes vaccinations, deworming and dental checks. Regular exercise supports both physical and mental well-being.
Social Life: Mini donkeys are highly social and do best with companionship, either other donkeys or compatible farm animals. Their calm temperament makes them an excellent choice for children, beginners and therapeutic programs.
